June 22nd

Song Story:

During the night of the upcoming June 22nd, 1941, Hitler's military machine powerfully overran Soviet lines in central and northern directions. However, the Southern Front of the “surprised” Soviet Union, instead of defending itself, went on the offensive. The Romanian and Hungarian divisions thrown to the front were overrun, the German rear was turned to flee, and the Russian bombers laid a bomb carpet in front of the Red Army Infantry. The air corridor crossed the territory of Romania and reached the North-Eastern cities of Bulgaria where the still sleepy civilian population suffered unexpected bombings in the early hours of the day. Stalin, who would traditionally wake up after 10:00 a.m., ordered an urgent withdrawal of the Southern Soviet Flank back to the borders of the Soviet Union, with no intention to conduct any offensive plans.

Song Lyrics:

Barbarossa starts today
June 22nd will remain
In memory of our land
Bulgarian Kingdom will prevail

South Front gains ground to west
Soviet aviation’s quest
40 kilometers in enemy lands
They trace the route to the Straights

Cover your windows
Turn off the lights
The planes are targeting
Your own house

Remember, remember
Don’t ever forget
The East front, the fallen
The fire…

The skies are full with Russian planes
The town of Dobrich cries in flames
Varna, Rousse with no warning
Bombarded early in the morning

Clashes of the total war
The firing bombs that quickly fall
Over peaceful population
Misunderstood as destination

Cover your windows
Turn off the lights
The planes are targeting
Your own house
Remember, remember
Don’t ever forget
The East front, the fallen
The fire by friends!

Fire by friends!
